Father Abraham song

Some people who have been around churches for a few decades may be familiar with a song called 'Father Abraham'.  For those of you who don't know it or those of you who pine for the old days, here is a youtube version:

The idea that we are children of Abraham, whether we are physically of jewish or arabic descent or not comes from the New Testament.  In fact Abraham is an important figure in the New Testament being referred to in
  • the genealogies of Jesus in Matthew and Luke,
  • the preaching of John the Baptist in Matt 3,
  • Jesus debates in John 8,
  • sermons recorded in Acts such as Stephen's speech in Acts 7,
  • Pauls letters to Romans (Ch 4) and Galatians (Ch 3),
  • Hebrews 11, and
  • James 2
You might like to read those passages - it will give you a sense of what it means to be a child of Abraham.  You then might like to go back and read the original events in Genesis 12-25.
