Stand Outs in the Gospel of John

As I have started to read through John's gospel this term, I have found I come across sentences here and there that stand out to me and cause me to reflect.  I thought I would share a couple with you so they might encourage you to look for your own stand outs:

John 1:10
He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize Him.

This stands out to me firstly as amazing that the one who created the world, entered the world; secondly as sad that the people who should have recognized him didn't; and thirdly as a challenge that I don't miss the person, presence and action of Jesus in my life.

John 1:39b
So they went and saw where he (Jesus) was staying, and spent that day with him.

This simple sentence refers to the start of a journey of discipleship to Jesus for Andrew and one other unnamed person:  going to where Jesus was and spending the day with Him.  I want to spend more of my days 'with Jesus' - not just in a religious retreat sort of way but in an every moment of ordinary everyday life way.

You might like to leave your stand outs as comments below or on a 'Reading the Gospels' forum.
